Now that summer is nearly over, it’s time to focus on knitted items we want to be sporting come this Fall and Winter. To help us out, I checked in on Pantone to discover 2013’s Fall/Winter palette.
I’m excited about these color choices. Featuring a jewel-tone palette with neutral accents, the colors are teal green, dark sea blue, a regal shade of purple, fuchsia, a deep coral red, orange, two earthy shades of green, and dark shades of grey and brown as the neutral accents.
Lovelyarns’ inventory is right on trend. One example is HiKoo CoBaSi. A soft cotton, bamboo and silk blend with a generous amount of elastic nylon. This fingering weight yarn comes in hanks of 220 yards in a wide range of colors. It is a perfect choice for socks, color-worked sweaters, scarves, shawls, and hats. Since it is machine washable, this is also a go-to for baby garments.
Step further into the shop and you’ll come across another yarn choice in a full selection of colors which includes shades from the Fall/Winter palette. “Tonic” from Jojoland is a plied DK weight acrylic and wool combination. Each skein is 220 yards. It can be used for hats, sweaters and throws. The machine wash/dry feature makes this a perfect choice for baby and children’s items.
The Fall/Winter color palette allows for easy mixing and matching by balancing the more vibrant hues with the neutrals. Color blocked scarves and sweaters using a combination of these colors would brighten up the usual dark winter outfit. And, there’s no overlooking the fact that these colors scream luxury, so an intricate lace-work shawl can add a bold accent to a simple black, grey or brown outfit.
New yarn shipments come into the shop nearly every week. Use the color palette as a starting point as you plan your Fall and Winter knitting projects.
